The Hunt Ranch

Marker #6
Albert and Mary Hunt

Albert Lufkin Hunt
b: 2-3-1923 - Strawberry, Arizona
Mary Louise Schneider
b: 8-18-1926 - Lakeside, Arizona

The first part of this home was built by Bud Miller, son of Pryor Miller (see Pine MARKER #12), and added to throughout the years. Albert M. Lufkin bought the ranch in 1912. The present owner, Lufkin Hunt, is the son of Frank Hunt and grandson of both Alma M. Hunt (see Pine MARKERS #1 and #2) and Albert M. Lufkin. He has lived in this house all of his life.

Note: Among other early settlers of Strawberry Valley were cowboys Hicks and Duncan, Alfred Peach and Lafayette Nash.

Hicks and Duncan brought cattle here for summer grazing before any settlers arrived. Alfred Peach and his wife raised 11 children, one being Edith, who attended the Strawberry School and later taught in it. Lafayette Nash was a delegate to territorial legislatures and the rocky bluff visible to the north from the west end of the valley is named for him: Nash Point.
