Segment 1
Installation of Guardrail -
Winter Shut Down
| Crews will complete the installation of guardrail the
week of February 1. Once the guardrail is installed, the
project will go into winter shutdown. In the spring, crews
will return to complete the paving operations and apply
the final layer of asphalt. Rubberized asphalt will be
used on SR 87 to increase life of roadway, reduce future
maintenance costs, decrease roadway noise, and improve the
overall quality of the roadway for a smooth ride. However,
this type of asphalt can only be applied under certain
temperature conditions to ensure it adheres to the first
layer of asphalt properly. Work will resume in late April
or early May when temperatures begin to increase. Applying
the asphalt when temperatures are too low during winter
months can compromise the quality of the installation. |

The photo above shows where crews have started to
install guardrails along SR 87. |

| Please be aware that signs identifying the
construction zone will remain in place during the
shutdown, as seen in the photo to the right. |
Segment 2
Re-striping of the Roadway
Re-striping of Segment 2 is scheduled for early February.
Dry weather is necessary for striping crews to apply new striping.
Striping will take place as weather permits. Closures of the
roadway are not scheduled during the application of striping.

Stay Informed
ADOT strives to keep the public informed about
construction projects, lanes restrictions, and closures.
This eUpdate is distributed periodically to help keep the
Rim Country communities up to date and alert citizens of
any expected construction activities that may affect traffic.
Stay in touch with the project
team by calling the project hotline at 1.877.521.1118
or emailing PrescottDistrictUpdates@azdot.gov.

Please note: Changes to construction plans can happen frequently
due to weather, equipment availability and personnel issues. We
try to anticipate construction activities a week in advance but
changes may occur. Intermittent lane closures, with short delays,
may not always be known in advance.
